Colin Pill

This is the first major study of the Cornish art metalwork that was so skilfully crafted over an 80 year period from the height of the Arts and Crafts movement, through the Art Nouveau to the birth of the ‘Craft’ movement.

The book showcases the work of the principal craftsmen and companies and reviews their backgrounds, their influences, and of course their rich body of work which is often strongly influenced by the culture and spirit of Cornwall. It compares work created in highly organised workshops and industrial classes as well as by individual craftsmen. The metalwork which is featured in detail includes:

 Hayle copper
 Newlyn copper
 Newlyn silver and enamels
 Herbert Dyer copper
 Archibald Carne wrought ironwork
 Eustace Family copper
 Francis Cargeeg copper

The book is profusely illustrated with photographs of metal work as well as contemporary photographs, advertisements and documents, which help show the great variety and style of work that was created.

Colin Pill is a chartered landscape architect, author and art copper worker, with Cornish roots. He has a long interest in Arts and Crafts metalwork and Cornish culture, and is the co-author of the book Newlyn Copper – Arts and Crafts copper work from Newlyn.
